Philippians 1:6 says "being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to the day of completion in Christ Jesus." Do you ever feel inadequate? When a task is difficult, we often fear that either we won't be able to do it or we won't do it well enough. As a Christian, it is easy to feel that we can't possibly measure up to what God desires. We read verses in the Bible that say to be perfect, yet we know that is impossible because we are human beings and we can't possibly be perfect. This verse tells us that God is always working on us. He knows exactly what He wants to do in and through us. We shouldn't be afraid of getting in the way. He works in and through us in spite of all of our shortcomings! He will never stop working in you, so you shouldn't ever stop trying to do what He is calling you to do! There's a Steve Green song entitled "He Who Began a Good Work in You" and I automatically start singing it whenever I hear this verse. Here are the words:
Chorus:
He who began a good work in you
He who began a good work in you
Will be faithful to complete it
He'll be faithful to complete it
He who started the work
Will be faithful to complete it in you.
Verse:
If the struggle you're facing
is slowing replacing
your hope with despair
Or the process is long
and you're losing your song
in the night
You can be sure
that the Lord has His hand on you
safe and secure
He will never abandon you
You are his treasure
and He finds His pleasure in you.
I John 5:12 says "He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life." Well, you can't put it more simply than that! If you have accepted Jesus into your heart, then you have eternal life. If you have not accepted Jesus into your heart, then you will not have eternal life with Him. In this crazy, unpredictable world, it is good to know that there is one thing we can count on: Jesus always keeps His promises! We can be assured that no matter what happens in this world, we will spend eternity with Him in heaven when we leave this earthly world. Do you have that assurance? Do you know where you'll be spending eternity? If not, ask Jesus into your heart and you will receive that assurance. If you are worried about things that may or may not happen here on earth, stop worrying and start trusting.
